FOND DU LAC PROFILE

Fond du Lac (French for "Foot [or Bottom] of the Lake") is located in east central Wisconsin at the south shore of Lake Winnebago.

Fond du Lac was once a trading center for the French and the local Indians. Effigy mounds near the city that date back to 500 B.C. point to the importance of this area for the Indian ancestors.

Lake Winnebago is home to water sports of all types including ice fishing in the Winter. The 400-acre Lakeside Park hosts year-round activities and features gardens, lagoons, covered bridges, a marina and a lighthouse.
