Pocatello is situated in southern Idaho in the Portneuf River valley surrounded by the western foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

Idaho State University is located in Pocatello and is the cities largest employer. The major college educational, cultural and sports programs from the university are an integral part of the community scene.

Outdoor recreation activities include world-class fly fishing on the Snake River and hiking, biking and skiing at Pebble Creek. Magnificent Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are also nearby.
